Readers may have heard via the national news that the sand dredger Severn Sands breaking away from her moorings at Fremington Quay on Monday 10th in heavy gales and was drifting in the River Taw toward’s the new Barnstaple Bridge. The facts proved this incorrect and the vessel finished up aground on the river bank approx 150 metres from her berth. She has been made safe to await the next high water when she will be refloated and returning to Fremington Quay .
