My grandmother , Mary Ann Fowler (nee Netherway) was I understand born in Instow and was brought up and lived in Appledore , married to Thomas Fowler  who worked on the Great Western railway as a fireman and steam engine driver. They moved to Taunton and later came to Bristol to live in Totterdown in Balmain St .

Billy Blackmore who lived in Appledore was I understand a relative  of the family and was connected with or owned the Yacht and Boat Builders on the banks of the Torridge.

During the war years I understand that the Boat Yard was used for making furniture for the government. Any further information on the boatyard would be welcome.

Editor's note.

Peter has enclosed some photographs of boats and a family gathering outside Billy Blackmore's bungalow in Appledore. In the photo is Dorothy Kitty Reid Mary and Billy Blackmore and Mary Ann Fowler. If anyone can throw any light on these photos they are available to view at Bideford Library. Peter would particularly like to hear from family members . The photos will be kept behind the counter at Bideford Library- just ask to see them.   I can supply Peter's address should anyone want to contact him with information.
