Sonnet to the little white town

To friends abroad and those quite close to home
Obtaining news from the locality
Brings joyful tidings; good for those who roam
Inspiring folk from Devon’s family tree.
Dear small white town, historic and extant
Enchants the stranger and the native thrills
Forever homeland , friendly confidant
Obliging port which Torridge river fills
Reminding us of bridges of the mind
Drawing together
Thoughts that will unite ,
Bring harmony at home ; to mankind
Until sweet reason triumphs over might.
Zephyr winds embrace sunny, welcome coast,
Zoned for the angels, not that we should boast.
