Bideford Town Hall Staff Outing

The Town Hall Staff on pleasure bent,
Locked up the doors and away they went.
A party gay, both staid and young,
All out to enjoy real good fun.
The ladies in fabrics, gingham and JEAN
As charming a set as ever was seen:
All attired in colourful hues
Much to the delight of our Miss HUGHES.
The men all decked in holiday dress
Like a Spanish DON at his very best.
We travelled by coach o'er moor and glen,
The ladies talked on and on without end -
Of scenery , dresses, hats and so on
With extensive library notes by Miss JENKINSON.
We saw the ROSE, the MAY and JESSIEmine tree
The beauty of which set us all in high glee.
At Okehampton we had a stop
When His Worship treated us all to ices and pop.
Ruth HOCKADAY induced us all to sing
Offering as a prize a substantial GOLDRING.
But L.G.B. tried to pull the strings
To embrace an HOPPER in full swing.
Lydford Gorge was a verdant display
But PAM said it was a HOLLOWAY.
Over the rocks we gladly sped
Including GLADYS, MARTINA and MILDRED.
At Princetown where there is a jail
Our learned TOWN CLERK turned ghastly pale,
Thinking the COPS were on his trail,
But he got away with a wondrous tale.
At Widecombe where we shall have tea,
There the good people will be able to see
Our ALICE, MINNIE, ANITA, MARY and JESS
LILIAN, ANNIE the JEANS and the rest,
The FREDS, HARRY, JACKS AND LEN,
DON, DEREK, LESLIE and his KEN.
Then the time comes to take the BACKWAY home,
All refreshed for our country roam.
